Running Clothes
There was some question at our last meeting about what clothing to buy for winter training. You can go to a running store and buy gear, but believe me, while the clothing they offer is definitely superior, the prices can be steep! (I bought a pair of running tights a couple years back and they were on sale for $80 or something like that.). I have tried a few items from the Old Navy Active line and been pretty happy with them. While I have not tried their long pants, I have tried a skirt and Capris as well as a sports bra. They appear to have some great Pants right now as part of their active line. These pants look great and they are on sale for $25 on their website:
You can also shop Target, their Champion line is good too. They have these C9 Champion pants.
Key is fabric, make sure it is moisture wicking, performance or tech fabric. Most of your workout wear should be, but read the tags to make sure!
Layers also help, If you layer on you can easily strip off layers if you get too warm.
My favorite items for keeping my ears from freezing are my Bondi Bands. They are moisture wicking and they are light but keep the breeze off. In the photo it is being worn like a headband but in the winter I wear it lower over my ears, under my hat.
Have fun and happy training. Nicole and I braved the snowy trails for a 2 mile run this morning :)

Working out sore muscles
I was browsing around Runners World today (is it just me, or are the rest of you super excited to get started on training after our meeting this past weekend) and found this cool article on how to massage your sore, tight muscles yourself! There is even a demonstration video. I think that I will definitley need to learn these techniques as we start to push the milage in the spring (and after we add hills!)
Here's the link to the article:

Homemade protein bars
Hey everyone! Thought I would share a yummy protein bar recipe I have. I don't like the dry, thick texture of store bought ones and this homemade one is really good. It tastes like those chocolate no- bake cookies, except they are healthy! And my kids love them too! Plus, they totally satisfy my sweet tooth! But.....they are not DIET bars....they have calories in them so don't think you can eat the whole batch! ;)
Homemade protein bars
3 1/4th c regular oats, blended to make powder
2 1/4 th c chocolate protein powder (I use Syntha 6; make sure you get the one that isn't for body building because it's higher in calories!)
2 1/2 c. Adams chunky peanut butter
1/4 th c ground flax seed
2 c. agave nectar (waaaayyy cheaper to buy at Costco)
1/4-1/2 c. Brad buds cereal
Mix it all up and put it in 9x13 sprayed pan. refrigerate for 30 minutes.
I have never frozen them, but I know Emily purser has cut them up, wrapped in aluminum foil and put them in the freezer.
And I usually half the recipe.
Enjoy!!!

First/Test Post
Hey all, this is where we will share our team training progress, ideas, etc! Upload photos of group runs (or even when you are on your own) here so we can all see!If you have any great, healthy recipes, also please share, I am certain that we would all like ideas for healthy food. We are going to have so much fun this year.
